About Us
The Michigan Foxtrotting Horse Association’s predecessor (MFTA) was founded in 1993, disbanded in 2021, then was reborn as the Michigan Foxtrotting Horse Association (MFHA). It attained 501c3 non-profit status in 2023 and continues to be an active and welcoming affiliate of the Ava, MO-based Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association which passionately promotes the Missouri Fox Trotter breed. The MFHA focuses on educational, practical and fun activities as well as networking to meet new people and to enhance our relationship with our versatile gaited mounts. The MFHA hosts an annual National Trail Ride and also offers a Versatility Challenge Program as a way to get our members and youth involved in and learning about new activities with their horses such as cow work, trail riding, driving, Dressage, jumping, showing and parades to name a few. We host educational clinics at a reduced cost to members. During the colder months the MFHA may participate in a horse and tack expo in Michigan for the purpose of promoting this breed. A member may display his or her own stallion or gelding there. The MFHA would not be complete without our dedicated breeders who produce excellent quality Fox Trotters. Please check out our website’s Breeding Information page to see MFTs available for sale. MFHA meetings are held monthly on Zoom and sometimes in person. Since membership spreads out all over the state and into surrounding states, we stay in contact with each member via monthly newsletters, our FaceBook page and our website (michiganfoxtrottinghorse.com).
We invite all people who are interested in Missouri Fox Trotters to join this association and to help promote the breed and participate in our activities.
